
Mercedes-Benz's “S-Class” was selected as the “2014 AWAK Car of the Year” by Automobile Writers' Association of Korea(AWAK). Lexus''IS250' was selected for the performance category, the Volvo'V40' was selected for the environment-friendly category, and the Mercedes S-Class was selected again in the design category.
The Automobile Writers' Association of Korea (hereinafter referred to as the AWAK) announced that it held the “2014 Car of the Year” awards ceremony at the press center in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 22nd.
The event was attended by members of the AWAK, Vice President Cho Gyu-sang of Mercedes-Benz Korea, Mikio Hayashi, Managing Director of Toyota Motor Korea, and Chul-ho Kim, CEO of Volvo Motors Korea.

Vice President Cho Gyu-sang of Mercedes-Benz Korea, selected as the car of the year with the new S-Class, said, “The S-Class, which reflects Benz’s philosophy of not making anything less than the best, has received a good evaluation this time.” he said. The Mercedes-Benz’s new S-class was selected at the Car of the Year for the year 2014 and also in the design category, winning two crowns.
Regarding the Lexus IS250, which was selected as the Car of the Year in the performance category, Mikio Hayashi, Managing Director of Toyota Motor Korea, said, “I am honored to receive the Performance Award for the Lexus IS250”. Cheol-ho Kim, CEO of Volvo Motors Korea, who was selected as the car of the year in the environment-friendly category, said, “It has been a prize in a long time. “There is no new car this year, but it will be a year showing Volvo’s philosophy of downsizing.”

The “AWAK Car of the Year” selected by the Automobile Writer's Association of Korea marked its second round this year. Last year, Kia Motors'K9' was selected in the domestic car category, and Lexus'New ES' was selected in the imported car category.
For the "AWAK Car of the Year" selection, a total of 10 cars was nominated. Nominees consists of 'Car of the Month' from January to December plus two cars recommended by voting members. On the 16th, members of the association gathered all the nominees in Heyri, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, held a final comparison test drive event and selected the car of the year through voting.
